Cottage food label requirements by state

What labels often include

Many states ask for some or all of these. Your state's page lists the ones it requires.

• The product's common name
• Ingredients, in order from most to least by weight
• Allergens: the 9 major US food allergens are milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. Some older state wording lists only 8; still declare sesame.
• The net weight or amount
• Your name and address, or in some states a registration number instead
• The state's home-kitchen statement, where one is required
• In some states: the date it was made, a batch number, or a minimum type size

We have the exact wording for 40 states. 8 don't require a statement, and for 3 the law sets the meaning but not the words, so we suggest wording that covers it.

"Set wording" means the law gives the exact words; your state's page shows them.
